- RideScope stores most ride data locally on your device.
- Location data is used for navigation, ride recording, and route-related weather/risk insights.
- When you request routes/weather, some coordinates are sent to third‑party providers (e.g., map/directions/weather).
- Subscriptions are handled by RevenueCat and Apple’s in‑app purchase system.
RideScope is not a safety device. All suggestions are informational; you are responsible for safe riding.
1) Data We Collect
Depending on how you use the app, RideScope may process the following:
- Location data (precise, and optionally in the background) to show your position on the map, provide navigation, and record rides.
- Ride telemetry such as speed, altitude, grade (slope), timestamps, and GPS track points.
- Motion/sensor signals (if enabled by the app features) to derive riding orientation/lean-related insights.
- Purchase/subscription data handled through Apple In‑App Purchases and RevenueCat (e.g., entitlement status “pro”).
- Diagnostics (optional): debug logs you may view/copy from inside the app to troubleshoot background tracking and purchases.
2) How We Use Data
- Navigation & routing: calculate routes, provide guidance, and reroute if needed.
- Ride recording: record and summarize rides, show your actual ridden path, and generate charts/statistics.
- Weather/risk insights: show route-related precipitation/wind/risk visuals where available.
- Pro features: unlock Pro features by checking your entitlement (e.g., “pro”).
- Support: if you choose to share logs/screenshots with us, we use them to diagnose issues.
3) Where Data Is Stored
On-device storage: Ride history, saved places, and settings are stored locally on your device.
Backups: Depending on your device settings, some app data may be included in OS backups (e.g., iCloud/iTunes backups).
4) Data Sharing (Third Parties)
RideScope uses third-party services to provide core functionality. When you request a route or weather/risk info, your coordinates may be shared with these providers to fulfill the request:
- Apple Maps (map tiles / base map, depending on your theme and device).
- Mapbox Directions API (route calculation, traffic-aware routing where enabled).
These providers may process IP address and request metadata as part of normal API operations.
- Weather providers used by the app (e.g., OpenWeather / Open‑Meteo, depending on configuration).
- RainViewer (precipitation radar tiles/layers, if enabled in the app).
- Apple In‑App Purchases (StoreKit) for subscription transactions.
- RevenueCat for purchase orchestration, entitlement status (“pro”), and paywalls/customer center.
RevenueCat typically uses an anonymous app user identifier by default unless you explicitly identify a user.
5) Permissions
- Location (When In Use / Always): required for navigation, ride recording, and background recording while the screen is locked.
- Photos / Media Library (Add Only): used only if you choose to save a ride share image to your Photos.
- Notifications: (if enabled) may be used for ride/weather/risk alerts.
6) Data Retention
RideScope keeps your ride history and related data on-device until you delete it from within the app or remove the app from your device.
7) Your Choices
- You can disable location permissions in iOS Settings (note: navigation/ride recording may stop working).
- You can delete rides in the app’s History/Detail screens.
- You can manage/cancel subscriptions via Apple’s subscription settings or within the app (Customer Center), if available.
8) Security
We take reasonable measures to protect data on your device. However, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
9) Children’s Privacy
RideScope is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10) Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will reflect the latest version.
